samurai08: Ocean wave(Japanese modern pattern) The name of this pattern is also known as a music piece of the court music. This pattern was very populat in the Genroku-period (A.D. 1688-1704) as it was oftern designed by a famous lacquer craftsman (Kanshichi Seikai 青海勘七) at that time. This pattern is called Seikai-ha in Japanese (Seikai= Blue ocean, ha=wave). It is one of the typical auspicious symbol.
